The Palbrick wagon design dates back to the 1950s, where British Railways decided they needed to produce a new brick carrying wagon to replace the ancient LNER wagons currently in use. Three variations were produced, coded Palbrick A, B & C - A could carry 13 tons, whilst B & C could carry 16 tons. Over 1,400 were produced but there were many changes made between these wagons to suit requirements. By the 1960s, they had already fallen out of use and had been converted into various other wagon types such as match-wagons and shellcasing wagons. Very few remain. |
