A single 0-4-4T locomotive was built for the Highland Railway to work services along the Strathpeffer branch line. The locomotive, named 'Strathpeffer' was designed by David Jones and constructed in 1890. In 1901, Drummond rebuilt the loco as a side-tank engine and it was then renumbered. In 1903, it was renamed to 'Lybster' and transferred to that branch line instead. It passed into LMS ownership in 1923 and was eventually withdrawn and scrapped in 1929.
