The LNER Class O1s were designed by Edward Thompson to haul heavy freight trains. Due to wartime restrictions on new new-build locos, the class were rebuilt from existing LNER Class O4 ‘ROD’ locomotives. The O1s featured modifications such as a standard LNER 100A boiler, Walschaerts valve gear and new cylinders. No examples were saved for preservation. |
