Originally produced for the Great Eastern Railway as the Class S69, the B12s were a class of 4-6-0 steam locomotive built to haul express passenger services along the Great Eastern Main Line. They were originally designed by S.D Holden but many were rebuilt over the course of their lives, resulting in several subclasses. Many of the class were displaced by newer motive power and found homes in Scotland due to their relatively low axle load. Most of the class survived into the 1950s, with one making it until 1961 in service. The final locomotive in service was also the only one to be preserved. |
