Corgi OM45708 AEC Q side engine, front ent. 1930's d/deck bus "Leeds"
This item has a limited edition certificate included.
Built by AEC at its Southall works, the first Q-type double decker made its appearence in October 1932.Designed by John Rackham, the Q-type is remembered as one of the most remarkable advanced bus designs of its era. Only twentythree Q's were built, with the majority being bodied by Metro-Cammell and at a price tag of -ú1,225. Sales were extremely dissapointing-so what went wrong? Was the bus industry of the time lacking in vision, was its engine accessibility or the fact that London transport opted for the STL-type? Nevertheless, this innovative vehicle is a true icon of the industry and visually pointed the way that was to be followed almost 25 years later.
UG6511, Fleet number 65 (Chassis No.761009) was delivered in October 1933. A second Q was delivered in 1934, originally registered AML 996, it became UG 7854, fleet number 78 when it joined Leeds. Both vehicles had 60 seat bodywork by Metro Cammell.
