Product Description

Clydeside Scottish Omnibus Ltd formed in 1985 from Western SMT Company Ltd as a subsidiary of the Scottish Transport Group. One of the shortest lived GÇÿnewGÇÖ Scottish Bus Group subsidiaries it remerged with Western Scottish, the successor company of Western SMT in 1989. Clydeside was formed in preparation of the deregulation of the British bus industry in 1986 and privatisation of the state-owned Scottish Bus Group (SBG). The fleetGÇÖs bright red and yellow livery was accompanied with a less corporate style for displaying the fleet name. A large number of old London Transport RoutemasterGÇÖs were purchased for a new network of service in the city of Glasgow. They provided the company the advantage of giving change to passengers without having to linger at bus stops, as opposed to the exact fare that the competing city operator demanded. The Routemasters proved popular but found it difficult to compete against other operators whose expenses were much lower. Upon merging with Western Scottish, Clydeside lost its livery to the Western black, white and red. GÇÿClydesideGÇÖ only remained as a trading name.
