Five brand new Jubilee buses were delivered to Stagecoach Manchester to commence the Golden Jubilee of Queen Elizabeth in 2002. These buses carry a-áspecial purple and gold adaptation of the increasingly familiar 'new' red, orange and blue livery. For people in Manchester, and for Commonwealth Games athletes, the branding "going for gold in Manchester" had a double meaning and celebration --áthe-áQueen's Golden Jubilee and the Comonwealth Games in Manchester. During the time of the Commonwealth Games, which were opened by the Queen on 28th July, these buses-áoperated a special shuttle service between Piccadilly and the City of-áManchester stadium. Altogether 30 new fully accessible buses, forming a major -ú2.5 million investment, were placed onto-áthe-áStadium Shuttle service during the time of the Commonwealth Games.-áThe service ran at 1 minute intervals during the peak times.
