Wing Commander Adrian Warburton was just 26 years of age when he went missing, flying a photo reconnaissance P-38 over Southern Germany in 1944. His RAF career started at just 21, described as 'unremarkable' and 'not even average' Warburton was sent to Malta where he made his name as a daring and determined Photo Reconnaissance (PR) pilot. In 1944 he was attached to an American PR unit at Mount Farm in Oxfordshire, although officially grounded, he took part in a mission on 12th April 1044 to photograph targets in Southern Germany. 'Warby' never returned, but before going missing, he was awarded the Distinguished Service Order and Bar, the Distinguished Flying Cross and two Bars, and an American Distinguished Flying Cross.
