By 1980, the BAe Hawk equipped 4 FTS in the advanced training role at RAF Valley, 1 and 2 Tactical Weapons Unit RAF Brawdy and Chivenor respectively in the Tactical Weapons training role and 2 Central Flying School units. (A detachment at RAF Valley and the Red Arrows demonstration team.) Within No.2 TWU at Chivenor was No 151 Squadron which was originally formed at Hainault Farm on 12 June 1918 as a night fighter squadron by combining one flight each from Nos 44, 78 and 112 Squadrons. Its purpose was to counter extensive enemy night attacks on British bases behind the Western Front and on 16 June the first flight crossed the Channel. In 1983, No.151 Squadron reformed as a RAF Reserve Squadron within 2 TWU at RAF Chivenor, Devon until April 1992, when 2 TWU, was redesignated 7 Flying Training School. The new unit, along with 4 FTS at RAF Valley, were to become part of the "mirror" training scheme.
