Capt. "Bud" Mahurin shot down a total of 19.75 aircrafts, ranging from Fw190s to a Ju-88, while he was with the 56th FG. This War Bond presentation aircraft (the second assigned to Mahurin) was used for all but three of these victories - the first two (Fw190s) were achieved in C-2 41-6259/UN-V on August 17, and he claimed a Bf109 (and a second damaged) in D-11 42-75278/UN-B on November 29. Unusual in that it retained its full squadron code letters, this machine is not known to have had any other form of personal marking on the starboard side.
