During the Korean War, the Meteor met the MiG-15 for the last time on March 27, 1953. Flight Sergeant George Hale and his wingman, Flight Sergeant David Irlam, were on a mission to attack ground traffic between Sinmak and Pyongyang. The flight of four was led by the commander Squadron Leader John Hubble. Following a lengthy exchange with a party of MiG's, Hale's Meteor, named 'Halestorm', sported two MiG silhouettes painted on by his crew for a few days until Squadron Leader Hubble ordered them painted out for contravening RAAF regulations. When the war came to an end four months later, 77 Squadron's combat record included 18,872 sorties, and the loss of 42 pilots - including 32 Meteors. During 4,836 missions they destroyed 3,700 buildings, 1,500 vehicles, and six MiG-15s.
