In the 1970's, the population growth in the New Territories led to an increase in passenger demand for transportation needs. To cater for this demand The Kowloon Motor Bus Company (1933) Ltd introduced AEC Regent Mk V double-deck buses to Hong Kong in 1973. These AEC Regent Mk V buses, with only 30 feet in bus body length, could proficiently operate on bus routes with road contsraints and was the first double deck bus type serving the Sheung Shui District when they came into servive in the 1970's.
