The Class 153 is a type of single-cpach railcar converted from two-coach Class 155 multiple units in the early 1990s. They were intended for service on rural and lesser used branch lines where passenger numbers do not justfy longer trains. Much of the fleet are still in use to this day with operators across the UK. Some are also to be converted into special "ATC" coaches for carrying bicycles and sports equipment with ScotRail.
