Sound Fitting Services
Please note - Hornby TTS Sound decoders are treated as a 'standard' digital fitting, and therefore are charged at the standard fitting service rates.

How do I order the DCC Fitting service?
When the service is available it is possible to order this service when placing an online order, on the product detail page of the item are DCC fitting options where you can select standard DCC or DCC sound fitting. you can also telephone order or order through the post, when buying a locomotive(s) and decoder(s).
How do I place an order for the service through the website?
You can go to the product detail page and click on either the DCC Fitted or DCC Sound buttons to automatically add the item, chip, speaker (if required) and service for each item. If you require this on more than one item then you will need to click the correct button on each item.
What items can be fitted using this service?
We offer the following service for OO, N & O gauge models:
- Fit appropriate decoder(s) into a DCC Ready item
We can also provide the following services for OO gauge models:
- Solder decoder into a DCC compatible (not DCC Ready) item
- Solder a non-DCC ready Bachmann 2 or 3 car DMU with lights
- Solder a non-DCC ready complex project eg (Bachmann Wickham Trolley)
We also offer the following Sound fitting options:
- Fit a sound decoder to a DCC Ready OO gauge loco
- Fit two sound decoders to a single DCC ready OO gauge item (such as a HST or Multiple Unit)
- Fit a sound decoder to a non-DCC ready OO gauge loco
Do I need to purchase a decoder?
Yes. The most appropriate decoder will be added to the cart when you select the service on the product. If you wish for us to fit a different decoder please remove the original one from the cart and add the one you require.
Can you fit a decoder to any other items? What about other scales?
Not at the moment, however we may extend this service in future. Please contact us if you would like anything fitted to a different gauge.
How long will it take to despatch my order?
It may take an extra few days to despatch your parcel than usual. You will receive the usual packing notification email when the parcel has been packed ready for despatch.
Can you fit a decoder to my pre-order item?
Yes. If you add the item to the cart using the service buttons and pre-order the items, making sure the order is set for ‘wait until all items are in stock’. As this is the case, it is not recommended to put multiple locomotives on one pre-order and rather to put them on individual pre-orders with the services.
Can I send in a loco I already own to be fitted?
Yes. Please contact us by telephone or email to check it can be done and the member of staff will be able to arrange this.
What happens if my item develops a fault?
Please take note of the following text specific to items that have been fitted by Hatton’s:
If you suspect a locomotive or decoder fitted with a decoder by the Hatton’s DCC fitting service has become faulty, please follow our standard returns procedure available at www.hattons.co.uk/returns.
Do not attempt to remove the decoder from the locomotive. Return the locomotive back to Hatton’s with the decoder still fitted for our inspection.
Any items experiencing a fault that seems to have arisen from any modification not made by Hatton’s will not be accepted for return; this includes removing and/or replacing a DCC decoder.
What do you do with the packaging and instructions for the fitted decoder?
We will include any instructions, packaging and blanking plates/jumpers removed from your loco during fitting with your locomotive.
Can you fit a decoder in the shop or "while you wait"?
We may be able to fit DCC Ready items in our shop, but this is dependant on the staff we have available at that time, and may not always be possible. When it is possible, it may take over an hour to complete the fitting, especially for sound locomotives.
