Heljan have announced that they are to produce a newly tooled model of the Class 104 Diesel Multiple Unit in OO gauge. The models will depict both London Midland region 3-car sets as well as North Eastern 2-car 'power-trailer' and later 2-car 'power-twin' sets. We expect these to arrive during 2023.
Heljan's Class 104 will feature:
- Highly detailed model with separately fitted parts
- Low-profile mechanism powering one-car per set
- Switchable interior and exterior lighting
- Digital & Sound capability - 21-pin socket (single decoder required for all cars)
- Accurate tooling variations representing different eras
- Fully detailed interior
- Sprung buffers

Prototype Information
104 Unit near Frisby in April 1976. © Nigel Tout The British Rail Class 104 Diesel Multiple Units were designed for general branch line and commuter routes. The first units were ordered for the London Midland region, with most seeing use in the North West. The class were re-engineered to remove asbestos insulation in the 1970s. The 104s also saw use in Tyneside, Scotland and around London. They were withdrawn by the end of 1993 and several sets made their way into preservation. |
