As part of a large rolling stock order by First Group, 27 Class 175s were delivered to allow new high speed services through the West Midlands and North West of England. Initially concentrated on the North Wales and south Cumbrian Coast routes, all vehicles were transferred to Arriva Trains Wales in late 2003. The Class 175s have since been used throughout Wales, as well as their traditional routes to Birmingham, Manchester and Holyhead.
