Hornby have revealed that they are to produce a newly tooled Class 51xx/ 61xx 'Large Prairie' 2-6-2T locomotive. An engineering prototype of this medium size tank loco has been showcased and the model will be available in both digital ready and factory fitted digital forms.
The 5100 class were an updated version of Churchward's 3100 class that were produced as part of his "locomotive improvement scheme". The design was destined to become one of GWR's most useful locomotives, lasting in traffic until the end of Western Region steam operations in 1965.
