All New Class 66 in OO Gauge
Developed & Manufactured by Hatton's Model Railways
Welcome to the project page for the upcoming Hatton's Class 66 in OO gauge!
After bringing the acclaimed P Class & Andrew Barclay locomotives and Warwell wagons to the market, we are excited to unveil our OO Class 66 project.
The model represents our biggest project to date, engineered from the ground-up using the very latest design and production techniques - with an all-new tooling, comprehensive detailing and a myriad of features at an affordable price. We want to produce the definitive modern era OO gauge loco and with the Class 66 now entering its third decade - we think there is no better time to do so.
In the first delivery, there will be a total of thirty two variations to choose from, showcasing usage of the locomotives by EWS, DB Schenker, Euro Cargo Rail, Freightliner, Direct Rail Services, GBRf and Colas Rail. This means that the lifespan of the 66 will be thoroughly covered in the first release, with a variety of tooling variations and loco-specific modifications on show. You can explore the vast range of features and tooling variations that will be included in the model below.

Expected Release Date: August 2019

Delivery Update
Following delivery of the decorated samples, our Class 66s have been reviewed and corrections have been submitted to the factory. Even though there are very few things to change, it will impact the release date of the models and the new expected delivery will be in August.
You will be able to view all of the complete samples we have at Model Rail Scotland, as well as talk to the project leader and other members of our team in Glasgow this weekend and in our store following this.

Painted Samples Revealed
We are very excited to show you the latest Class 66 samples which show almost all of the liveries we are producing.
We hope you agree that the quality of painting and printing on these is amazing and captures livery elements from the largest logo down to the smallest safety signs.
There are still a couple of tweaks to a small number of paint colours and prints but on the whole this is how they will arrive.
The next samples will have a fully working PCB which will allow us to show you the lighting modes on all types of control as well as the finished sounds with the updated speaker.
As always let us know what you think.

Variations Available to Order
All versions below are available to pre-order now for £150 each.
The Class 66 is a six-axle diesel-electric freight locomotive, somewhat based on the earlier Class 59 locomotives. The class has proved to be highly successful with a total production run of 455 in the UK and alternative versions of the loco being marketed to Europe as the EMD Class 66.
Upon privatisation, a number of newly-privatised rail freight companies; Transrail, Mainline, Loadhaul, Railfreight Distribution, and RES were bought out and became EWS. EWS inherited a fleet of 1,600 mostly diesel locomotives, including many Class 47s which had to be overhauled every 7 years at a cost of £400,000. In an effort to reduce their operating costs, EWS approached Electro-Motive Diesel to build new locomotives based on the Class 59 bodyshell but with a different engine and traction motors to enable higher speed running - leading to the commissioning of the Class 66.
EWS ordered 250 Class 66 locos, in what was termed "the biggest British loco order since steam days". Further orders were placed by Freightliner, GB Railfreight, and Direct Rail Services in later years. 66779 was the last Class 66 to be built as the design could no longer meet the stringent stage 3b emissions regulations. The locomotives have proved to be extremely reliable and adaptable, being used for across a huge spectrum of UK freight operations.
