This past weekend was Guildex 2017 at the Telford International Centre. It's the largest exhibition in the UK that is dedicated to O Gauge. Over the weekend, over 2000 people streamed through the doors to see updates from a range of manufacturers and traders as well as the large amount of impressive layouts that never fail to impress.
For the first time we attended the show as an official exhibitor, located at Stand 120. We had a team on hand to answer questions and listening to all your ideas and suggestions. We absolutely loved the show and want to thank everyone who came along to see and chat to us. It was a fantastic experience getting to learn more about the O Gauge market and the people in it.
Below you will find a round-up of all the happenings from the weekend, ranging from manufacturer updates and announcements to news from Hatton's.

Hatton's Exclusive - Class 20 with headcode discs
We showed off, for the first time, painted samples of our Exclusive versions of the forthcoming Heljan Class 20 with headcode discs. Overall the finish is very good and only a few minor ammendments are required, which have already been made with Heljan and passed on to the factory.
The printed detail itself is very well applied with BR logos and warning flashes being crisp and legible all around.
The BR blue version we have is a running sample and performs faultlessly on our test track. Acceleration and deceleration are both smooth, owing to the satisfying amount of weight these models carry as well as being propelled by dual 5-pole motors.
A working roof fan and directional headlights are also present on these models, as is standard on Heljan O Gauge diesel models.
Overall they look fantastic and we can't wait for the finished articles to arrive with us between October and November this year.
Both will be produced in extremely limited numbers, so pre-ordering is advised. Both available to pre-order HERE for £550 each.
Hatton's Exclusive - LNER Class A3
Side profile view of the 3D print of H7-A3-007
Probably the star of the show on our stand was the very impressive 3D print of Class A3 'Flying Scotsman' using the CAD files produced for our forthcoming model.
There was a lot of talk on the stand and plenty of people looking and taking pictures. It seemed as though lots of people had questions on the stand, including:
Q. Will this (A3 & A4) come fully-built up?
A. Yes, the model will be supplied fully ready-to-run.
Q. What does the under-side of the A3 look like?
A. Take a look...

Q. Can you do a version with the Great Northern tender?
A. We were very close to offering versions with the Great Northern tender in our initial batch but it would have pushed the price up a little too much. We've made sure that we are able to cater for it in future and have research materials on hand to faithfully reproduce it.
Q. Will you offer un-named/un-numbered versions?
A. We looked into producing un-numbered and named versions of the A3/A4 but due to the high number of variations within the classes, to produce a plain version would only accurately represent a small number of locomotives. We decided it would be best to include full decoration for specific versions.
Over the course of the weekend we saw countless people coming up to the stand to take a look at the A3, with some people making multiple visits. We're very much looking forward to progressing with the project and providing further updates as we have them, including an equally impressive 3D print of the A4.
All 7 versions of A3, and 9 versions of A4 are still available to pre-order for £750 each from THIS page on our website.
Hatton's Exclusive - LNER Gresley Teak Coaches
Half of the 3D print for the Diagram 115 Corridor Third
The 3D print for our LNER Gresley coaches also drew a lot of attention over the weekend with several people remarking on the detail present both underneath and in the corridor section.
We're currently awaiting the 3D print for the A4 before progressing the A3, A4 and Teaks to the tooling stage all at once.
Once that happens, it should not be too long before we receive First EP samples.
All versions of the Teak coaches are still available to pre-order for £249 each on THIS page of our website.
Hatton's Exclusive - 50t Warwell Wagons
Finally, we were also showcasing the factory painted samples for our forthcoming O Gauge versions of our exceedingly popular Warwell Wagons.

As the Warwell samples are not as delicate as the other 3D printed samples we had on display, we were more than happy for people to closely inspect the impressive level of detail on these models.
Everyone who picked up one of them almost instantly remarked on the tremendous amount of weight in each one, owing to the diecast metal chassis which comprises much of the wagon itself.
They tip the scales at around 500g each which provides a very robust feeling and provides very smooth and stable running.
Dapol - O Gauge Class 14xx 0-4-2T
First CAD showing Dapol 58xx
The first of Dapol's announcements over the weekend was the Class14xx/48xx/58xx 0-4-2T locomotives, following on from their recent tradition of small Great Western steam locomotives in O Gauge.
The 48xx (later reclassified 14xx) was inspired by the Armstrong 517 class and was produced to perform the same type of local passenger work.
In total, 75 of the 48xx were built and later re-classified as 14xx. At the same time, Swindon also produced 20 of the 58xx which did not feature auto-train equipment or top-feed when first built.
Features will include:
- Diecast running plate
- Fully compensated Diecast chassis
- Diecast and profiled wheels
- High level of separately applied detail
- Flickering firebox effect
- Removable cab roof (to enable simple crew fitment)
- Sprung metal buffers and working screw-link coupling
They have announced 9 versions, with each one also being offered with DCC or DCC Sound pre-fitted.
All versions are now available to pre-order on THIS page of our website and are due to be released in Q3 of 2018.
Dapol has already announced suitable Autocoaches which are due for release in October this year and are available to order from THIS page on our website.
Dapol - O Gauge SR Pill Box Brake Van
EP Samples for the new versions of SR Pill Box Brake Van
The second announcement from Dapol was 7 new versions of their SR Pill Box Brake van.
Previously only available as even plank versions, the new batch of 7 also includes 3 versions with uneven plank construction.
The SR 25-ton 'Pillbox' brake van was originally built in the 1930s as an improved versions of an earlier, shorter wheel-base van.
The new brake van enjoyed a better ride and improved braking performance due to being heavier as well.
Features will include:
- Accurate and detailed body shell and chassis
- Separately added fine detailing parts
- Sprung metal buffers
- Metal sprung coupling hook and three link coupling
- Finescale wheel profile with brass bearing axle pockets
All versions are available to order now on THIS page of our website and are due in stock by Q2 of 2018.
Dapol - O Gauge 16T Mineral Wagons
Previous release of Lionheart 16T mineral wagon shown for illustration purposes.
The 3rd and final announcement from Dapol over the weekend was the addition of another ex-Lionheart item to their range, following on from the two companies merging just over a year ago.
This time it is the ever-useful 16T mineral wagon of which over 300,000 ended up being produced and running on the network until the late 1980s.
Due to production being passed to existing wagon building companies as well as general engineering contractors, there ended up being a masssive amount of variance in production methods. This resulted in some minor design differences such as welded or riveted bodies which are being accomodated for in the Dapol (ex-Lionheart) tooling.
Features will include:
- Finely moulded body
- Diecast chassis with compensating beam
- Removable coke rails (where applicable)
- Metal sprung buffers
- Metal sprung coupling hook and three link coupling
All versions are available to order now on THIS page of our website and are due to be released in Q1 of 2018.
Heljan - O Gauge Class 25/3
Heljan also made some announcements whilst at the show, the first of which was that they are going to be producing a Class 25/3 with revised bodysides and cabs, as per the prototype. This will be paired with the Class 25 chassis that they have already released.
4 versions have been announced and are due to be released in Q2 of 2018.

At this stage features and prices have not yet been announced but are sure to follow in due course. You can pre-order any of the announced versions at THIS page on our website. As soon as any more information is made available we will pass it on to customers.
Heljan - O Gauge Class 50
Heljan previously announced, back in April, that they were intending to produce an O Gauge version of the Refurbished English Electric Class 50.
Heljan have now announced that there will be 6 versions in the first batch covering most of the liveries carried by the locomotives while in service with BR.
