Of the 852 Class 8F's built, 150 survived to 1968, the last year of steam traction on BR. They were therefore a common sight alongside diesels of both the green and blue livery periods. Despite their relatively small driving wheels these locomotives had a surprising turn of speed and were often used on passenger services. The specfification of the model includes articulated coupling rods, metal handrails and is powered by a 5 pole motor housed in the loco body.
