This train pack contains:
- Princess Coronation class 4-6-2 'Duchess of Devonshire' 6227 in LMS maroon
- 1st class Stanier coach 1047 in LMS maroon
- 3rd class Stanier coach 1761 in LMS maroon
- 3rd class Stanier coach 1773 in LMS maroon
Both the LNER and the LMS were anxious to obtain the lucrative passenger custom of those who wished to travel from London to Scotland and vice versa. One of the reasons why both companies progressed with their locomotive streamlining programmes was to obtain those extra few minutes of time so that they could claim they had the fastest service from London to Scotland.
The Royal Highlander operated from London, Euston and travelled to Inverness leaving Euston at approximately 7.15pm, and eventually arriving in Inverness, having stopped at Perth for some 20 minutes, at 9.00am the following morning.
