Guy Arab utility d/deck bus "East Kent"
The East Kent Road Car Co. Ltd was formed on April 16th 1916, but the idea of running motor buses in Kent dated back to 1906 by Sidney Garake, who became chairman of the new company. Part of the British Electric Traction Group (BET), the company grew and ran buses connecting the towns and villages of east kent. The company suffered during the war years from 1939, and most depots were either destroyed or damaged and 132 vehicles were lost. Peace eventually brought the holidaymakers flooding back to be carried by a fleet of 65 Utility Guy Arab buses. Most of these ran unitl 1958, when apart from the open toppers, they were withdrawn and replaced by a fleet of modern AEC Double Deckers. BJG 355 is represented in the wartime 'comouflage' livery which it was still carrying when pictured on the bombed site of Cantebury depot.
