Product Description

Built at Brough, Yorkshire, Buccaneer S.Mk.2B, XW986, was one of three delivered to the Ministry of Defence (Procurement Executive) in January 1974 as a 'Weapons Trails' aircraft at the Royal Aircraft Establishment test airfirld West Freugh. It was originally painted in a yellow, extra dark green and white colour scheme to ease tracking and kinethedolite operators. By 1987, it had been repainted in the smart 'Signal Red', white and 'Oxford Blue' colour scheme known as 'Rasberry Ripple' and in May was transferred to RAE Bedford 'Flight Systems', where it remained undergoing trails for the next seven years, until it was withdrawn from service in September 1994.
