The current Range Rover is a good example of how the global motor industry is interconnected by a complex web of deals. Originally designed in the UK at RoverGÇÖs Gaydon design centre, it used many BMW sourced components, as BMW owned Rover at the time. Rover was sold to the Phoenix Consortium for -ú10 in 2000, but crucially this sale did not include Land Rover which BMW sold to Ford for 3 billion Euros. Land Rover then launched the current Range Rover in 2001, complete with all its originally envisaged BMW components which Ford bought under the terms of the initial sale agreement. The Range Rover has now been re-engineered to use components from within the Ford empire, most notably JaguarGÇÖs V8 engine.
