Bristol Britannia SRS.313, El Al, Israel Airlines, Tel Aviv, Israel 1958
More than 10 in stock.
This item has a limited edition certificate included.
El Al Israel Airlines is the national airline of Israel. It operates international scheduled passenger flights to Africa, Asia, North America, Europe and the Middle East and is based at Ben Gurion International Airport, Tel Aviv. The airline was established on 15 November 1948 and started operations in August 1949 with a service from Tel Aviv to Rome and Paris, extended a year later to London. On December 22, 1957, it began operating the new Bristol Britannia turboprop aircraft for non-stop transatlantic services. El Al was the second international airline, after the British Overseas Aircraft Corporation (BOAC), to fly the extremely reliable Britannia planes. During this period, most large airlines were replacing piston-engine planes with turboprops. Gradually, El Al increased its Tel Aviv-New York service to five flights a week and within a year of beginning this route, had doubled its share of the Atlantic traffic. 4X-AGA was the first of five Britannias ordered by the airline and was delivered on 5th September 1957. It was sold to Swiss airline, Globe Air, in April 1964, but was damaged beyond repair when it undershot the runway at Nicosia, Cyprus on 20th April 1967.BARGAIN

Curtiss Kittyhawk Mk1a - NX94466 SU-E - Preserved USA/Duxford
9 in stock.
(As preserved in airworthy condition by John R. Paul / Warhawk Air Museum at Boise, ID, USA)
The Kittyhawk was the name given by the British Commonwealth airforces to the P-40E model and subsequent variants. though not a first rate high altitude dogfighter, the Kittyhawk with its long range, bomb load and armour, became a formidable low-level fighter-bomber. This P-40E was originally Deliverd to the Royal Canadian Air Force as '1057', then sold on the civil register as N94466 in 1942, being owned by a succession of private owners until it was bought as a hulk by John R. Paul of Boise, Indiana, in 1966, who fully rebuilt it and flew it from Livemore, CA, in 1970. Painted as an RAF Kittyhawk in desert camoflage with 'Sharkmouth' nose markings, it was given the serial 'AK933' and the code letters 'SU-E' as a tribute to Johns wife! N94466 was seen in the UK during 1984-89 when it was leased to the Old Flying Machine Company at Duxford and flown at many UK air shows by Ray and Mark Hanna.

Se5a - Edward 'Mick' Mannock
10 in stock.
Despite being virtually blind in his left eye, Edward 'Mick' Mannock was accepted by the Royal Flying Corps in 1917 and assigned to 40 Squadron at St Omer in France. As a staunch socialist, his political views were not respected. It was not until he scored his first victory- an enemy balloon, that he began to be admired. In February of 1918, he became flight commander of 74 Sqaudron, then became commanding officer of 85 Squadron. Mannock was killed when his aircraft was shot down by machine gun fire from the ground - he had 61 victories to his name. On July 18, 1919, it was announced that Mannock had won the Victoria Cross.

Douglas DC-3 - BEA (British European Airways) - London Heathrow Airport 1959
7 in stock.
This item has a limited edition certificate included.
British European Airways (BEA) was officially formed on 1st April 1946 with aircraft leased from BOAC. On 1st February 1947, various other airlines were taken over resulting in the first of BEA's DC-3's being operated from Northolt, before the airline moved to Heathrow. The venerable DC-3 (perhaps better known as the Dakota) was the mainstay of BEA from when the first was purchased after WWII in 1946 untill the mid-1950s, remaining in service untill the last was withdrawn on 19th May 1962. In all, some 70 DC-3s were leased or owned by BEA including G-AHCZ, which was a MkIII built in Oklahoma City and delivered to BOAC in 1946. It was transferred to BEA in 1947 and named 'Charles Samson', becoming a 'Pionair' class DC-3 with modifications including an air stair door. It flew the last BEA service between Northolt and Jersey in 1954 and was transferred to Cambrian airways in 1959.

Spitfire Mk.I - X4330, QJ-G, 616 Sqn, Sept. 1940 Spitfire Mk. Vb - EP254, DW-B, 610 Sqn, Aug. 1942 Spitfire Mk. IX - EN398, JE-J, OC Kenley Wing 1943 The most famous and most successful Spitfire Ace of World War II was undoubtedly Johnnie Johnson, remarkable also as one of the few to fly all 3 of the most recognised of Spitfire variants. Air Vice Marshal James Edgar "Johnnie" Johnson CB, CBE, DSO and two Bars, DFC and Bar (9 March 1915 - 30 January 2001) was an RAF pilot who during World war II shot down 38 Luftwaffe aircraft, thus becoming the British flying ace with the most "kills" during the war. Presented here on a plinth to celebrate the 70th Anniversary of his famous mount, it was the MkIX which saw him at his most successful but both the earlier Mark I and Mark VB were also part of the Legend.BARGAIN
