This item has a limited edition certificate included. W.Alexander & Sons (Fife) Ltd was set up in1961 when the 1900 Alexander empire was split into three. The new Fife company a striking Ayres Red and Cream livery. Like other companies in the Scottish Bus Group, Alexander (Fife) needed low height double-deckers, and inherited 80 on its formation in 1961, adding a further 65 between 1962 and 1967, including 34 FS models. FRD 199 was one of the 1964 deliveries, with a 60-seat ECW body. After withdrawal it was acquired for preservation and can now be seen at the Scottish Vintage Bus Museum at Lathalmond, Fife, close to the area where it formerly worked. |

An entirely new design of chassis was evolved by AEC at Southall, with the engine positioned on the offside frame member behind the front axle. After the success of the single deck Q with L.G.O.C. and provincial operators, the L.P.T.B. ordered 102 4Q4 type for the Country Area bus work which entered service throughout 1935. Although far ahead of its time, the Q Type was only in production for 4 years but it paved the way for the underfloor engined type so much in evidence today. BXD 528, Q7 is featured in original prewar Country area livery with 37 seat bodywork by the Birmingham Railway Carriage & Wagon Company. It was allocated to Watford Garage and remained with L.P.T.B. until August 1953. |

Scince the decline of this market, the customer base has widened to embrace all types of operator including major groups, both at home and abroad. St. Helens Corporation commenced motor bus operation in 1923. In 1959, a solitary front entrance 30ft long double decker numbered K199 was purchased. It was an AEC Regent V with East Lancs body. Decertificated by Corgi, no Limited Edition certificate Registration No: GKP 511Fleet No: 56 Route: Sutton Rd, Grove Rd From 1904 until 1928 Maidstone Coproration used trams for its routes to Barming, Loose and Tovil Road. Trolleybuses replaced tramcars on two routes, but diesel buses took over on the Tovil run. Until 1964 the trolleys seemed reasonably secure, having had several extensions to the system since the Second World War, the last being the erection of wiring along the new Bishops Way. The decision to abandon the system was taken the same year, with replacement by diesel buses scheduled to take place over the next four years. During the transition programme buses were slotted into the trolleybus services, and the final withdrawal came on 15 April 1967. Number 56 (GKP 511), is a Sunbeam W new in 1944 with a Park Royal Utility UH30/26R body, rebodied by Roe (H34/28R) in 1960. This fine vehicle is now preserved at The Sandtoft Transport Centre, near Doncaster. |

This item has a limited edition certificate included. Derby Corporation Omnibus Department received 237 from Charles H. Roe Ltd., early in 1960 as part of a batch of eight. These were the last of the traditional type of open platform trolleybuses ever built, with new chassis and bodies, all subsequent deliveries being either rebodies on older chassis, or had front exits with doors. 237 has a 95 H.P. ‘B.T.H.’ motor which is more than sufficient to power the 65 passengers along quietly and fume free, a task which is still possible, as upon withdrawal she was purchased for preservation, and after restoration, now operates at the Black Country Living Museum in Dudley. This item has a limited edition certificate included. Samuel Ledgards’s blue buses operated between Bradford, Otley, Harrogate and Leeds. Ledgard’s empire, based at the Nelson Hotel, where he was the publican and brewer, started with haulage in 1906 and grew to include outside catering and a quarry business. He ran his first bus in 1912 and ran a charabanc with an interchangeable body (U 1949) to Blackpool and Scarborough in 1913. After the war, his business grew with the acquisition of other companies, retained as legally separate subsidiaries in Company livery. Samuel died in 1952, and the Company continued for a further 15 years under the control of the executors, finally being sold in October 1967. Samuel always bought new Leylands, so the executors’ choice of six Roe bodied AEC Regent Vs was surprising at the time. The first of these was registered 1949 U, recalling Sam’s first chara. She spent her entire Southdown career based at Portsmouth, spending most summers working as an open topper along the seafront on Hayling Island. It was re-registered in 1986 (WOW 993T) and left Southdown in May 1987, passing to People's Provincial in Fareham, Hampshire becoming its 202. She spent the summer of 87 working an open top service around the Gosport area, being re-roofed and converted for driver training duties at the end of that season. In the spring of 1993 it was withdrawn and sold to a local scrap merchant, from where it was rescued for preservation in October 1994. Formed in 1930, this small South Wales company provided an express service between Cardiff and Swansea, also serving those towns whose names were shown along the roof side of each coach. Originally painted in a cream livery, the vehicles were nicknamed 'Flying Bananas' but the change to a brown livery changed the nickname to 'Brown Bombers'! Two new AEC Reliance with Panorama I bodywork were delivered in February 1967 and were the first Plaxton bodies the company had purchased scince 1946. A similar vehicle was delivered a year later and was to become the last delivery before tyhe company passed to the THC. The origins of Delaine Buses of Bourne Lincolnshire can be traced back to 1890 when the family introduced horse-drawn vehicles to cater for local people wishing to travel to markets throughout the surrounding area. the first motor-bus was introduced in 1919 and dialy services from Bourne to Peterborough, Stamford, Spalding, Sleaford and Grantham were all establiched bt 1923. Now run by the fifth generation of Delaine-Smith family, the core business is still based around some of these original services, which have been developed and tailored, using a careful blend of tradition and acting on current market demands. Aptly AD03 OCT is the third Volvo B7TL with an East Lancs Vyking body to enter the fleet in March 2003 and was the first to carry the new format registration plate. Usually these black and yellow Tridents can be found on Line 14 with their dark green stablemates, but they do run on Line 11 as well from time to time with their turquoise counterparts. 50% of the models produced will carry the destination Blackpool 14 and 50% will carry the destination St. Annes Square 14. |

This item has a limited edition certificate included. C544 RAO was a pre-production Leyland Lynx built at the Workington factory, hence its registration by the Carlisle LVLO. Its seating arrangement was B51F. It became Ribble 901 in May 1986 at a time when NBC subsidiary companies were adopting new liveries as part of the sell-off of the NBC; this being a version of the Ribble privatised livery of Poppy Red with touches of grey, yellow and white. The Lynx remained unique in the Ribble fleet and in 1991 after both Ribble and Cumberland had become part of the growing Stagecoach empire, it was transferred to Cumberland as number 255 to join similar vehicles in the fleet. In 1996 it became number 544 in the fleet of Stagecoach Transit of Stockton-on-Tees. |

Upon the launch of the Metro Bus Network in April 2001, each route used buses painted in a dedicated livery. This item has a limited edition certificate included. The East Kent Road Car Co. Ltd was formed on April 16th 1916, but the idea of running motor buses in Kent dated back to 1906 by Sidney Garake, who became chairman of the new company. Part of the British Electric Traction Group (BET), the company grew and ran buses connecting the towns and villages of east kent. The company suffered during the war years from 1939, and most depots were either destroyed or damaged and 132 vehicles were lost. Peace eventually brought the holidaymakers flooding back to be carried by a fleet of 65 Utility Guy Arab buses. Most of these ran unitl 1958, when apart from the open toppers, they were withdrawn and replaced by a fleet of modern AEC Double Deckers. BJG 355 is represented in the wartime 'comouflage' livery which it was still carrying when pictured on the bombed site of Cantebury depot. |

As part of a constant drive to improve coach standards, the company announced the purchase of 3 Neoplan Coaches in early 1984. The order included one Skyliner double deck coach and two of the latest 'state of the art' single deck coaches - the Neoplan Cityliner. The coaches operated a twicw weekly programme to Mediterranean resorts in the South of France and Spain and were a regular sight on Europe's motorways throughout the mid eighties. PDL 27, registration number X 527 GGO is part of a batch of vehicles delivered new, from Plaxton Scarborough in December 2000 for operation on TffL route 289. This is based at the Arriva London Beddingdon Farm garage (code CN) in Beddington Farm Road, Croydon. As delivered the bus was in Arriva red livery with cream “cow horns”. The bus is a 10.7 m. length Dennis Dart SLF fitted with Plaxton Pointer 2 bodywork, equipped with a Cummins Euro 2 engine and regenerating exhaust particulate trap. The bus has individual seats for 31 passengers with 27 standees OR 22 standees with one wheelchair. The wheelchair ramp is located at the centre door. Following the award of this contract in 2005, the bus was refurbished and repainted in London Buses red with a white roof together with roof mounted descriptor (for aerial identification). Route 289 operates between Purley Station (Whytecliffe Road) and Elmers End Green, via West Croydon. The route is 9.75 miles end to end and takes roundly one hour each way. The Metrobus, manufactured by Metropolitan Cammell Weymann in Birmingham, was the next volume purchase by London Transport of new double deck buses after the DMS. With LT running Metropoltans from the same manufacturrer, they took a demonstrator on loan at the end of 1977. This resulted in a trial of 5 vehicles running in 1978/9 that was successful so orders were placed for significant numbers that were progressively introduced from 1979. The production vehicles could be distinguished from the trial vehicles as they had smaller, Routmaster style, bling boxes. LT considered the MKII version by trialling a pair against Leyland Olympian, Dennis Dominator and Volvo B55 types. A third Metrobus MKII was also due for delivery as a MKIII prototype but never materialised, like the MKIII Metrobus itself. Apart from a number of single door MKII's for Harrow and a few secondhand vehicles bought from the north of England, the LT fleet was all MKI with the asymmetrical windscreen design. The LT Metrobus fleet went on to total 1,485 with LT becoming the biggest customer for the Metrobus, even beating West Midlands Travel in whose territory the Metrobus was built. M331 ended its London service running for London General. |

This item has a limited edition certificate included. Maynes of Buckie is a family business which started in 1947 by James Mayne with a secondhand Bedford OB Coach. During the 50s and 60s the Company grew steadily operating services for fishermen between Buckie and ports in North West Scotland. In 1966, after the death of the founder, the Company was taken over by his son 'Donnie' and in 1972 he acquired the first new full size coach - a Plaxton bodied Bedford. During the 80s and 90s Maynes collected numerous awards at the Blackpool Coach Rally - the standards of the company being the envy of many in the industry. In 1982 Gordon mayne, the current proprietor took over the company after the death of his father and continued to expand the business. This item has a limited edition certificate included. Felix Bus Services was started in 1922 by Mr Norman Frost, operating a Crossley lorry to carry coal during the week, and after adding seats to the rear of the vehicle, carrying miners and their families at weekends. He operated from Stanley village, between Derby and Ilkeston, and when many asked what he would call his first coach, he decided to use the name Felix from the popular song of the day ‘Felix Kept on Walking’. The first coaches were mainly Crossley lorry chassis with passenger bodies by Yeates or Willowbrook of Loughborough, and a black cat emblem was applied to the body sides. In 1937, a new garage was built on Station Rd, Stanley, and the operating centre is still in use today. The present fleet includes Scania, Volvo and Optare service buses and Volvo and Iveco coaches. A full holiday programme to most UK resorts and the continent is operated each year, together with a variety of interesting excursions. The Plaxton Paragon coach was purchased in March 2006, it is fitted with 53 seats and full air conditioning, and is used for the holiday tours and excursions programme. BARGAIN |

This item has a limited edition certificate included. Plaxton has been trading in Scarborough since 1907, initially in construction but soon after became heavily involved in vehicle Coachbuilding. The business developed rapidly in the post war era, capitalising on the boom in travel which followed the austerity period of the forties. By the early 1960’s, Plaxton had become the second largest coachbuilder in the UK and with the launch of the highly acclaimed Panorama and Elite ranges, moved into the number one spot by 1970, a position it has sustained ever since. By 1990, the company had moved from a publicly quoted company, largely under control of the founding family, to merge with the Henlys Motor Group making it one of the UK’s largest publicly quoted automotive companies. The model and market range had by this stage expanded to include buses and a takeover of Northern Counties in Wigan added double deck buses to the portfolio for the first time, making complete the already comprehensive range. Expansion saw ventures in the US and Canada acquired by Henlys, some in partnership with Volvo. A further change of ownership came in 2000 when Henlys merged their UK bus operations with those of the Mayflower Corporation to form Transbus International and a subsequent internal restructure which consolidated bus production in plants in Scotland and the north west. Scarborough became a dedicated coach plant once again, setting new standards for production and innovation in the industry. Major developments in lean manufacture, accessible vehicles and supply chain all contributed to the success of the venture in this period. The collapse of Mayflower saw a management buyout of the Plaxton operations in 2004, subsequently the company entered into a period which can be seen as one of the most rapidly developing in it’s history.
