Standard class 5MT 73030 & BR1 tender & Westinghouse pump in BR black with early emblem
The new Standard 5 Loco's are being delivered with a plastic box like accessory.
This black box is only used when the Loco is being fitted for DCC operation.
It
acts as an insulator between the digital chip and the Loco chassis.
This item does not come with coal in the tender
No Westinghouse pump is supplied with this model, Bachmann decided not to include it at the last minute
Built under the direction of R A Riddles, the first of the British Railways Standard Class 5's, numbered 73000, appeared from Derby works on its completion in April 1951. It was to immediately take its place on display in the British Transport Commission Exhibition held in Marleybone Station, London in black lined out mixed traffic livery.
The design of the 5MT was based closely on the LMS Stanier locomotive of the same power classification, and incorporated the same tried and tested boiler with the exception of BR fittings being used. A total of 172 engines were built between 1951 and 1957, the Class being perhaps the mostly widely distributed of all Standard classes, being allocated to every region of the BR network.
Several varieties of tenders were linked to the Class 5's to meet the varied needs of each region. Other minor design changes are also noticeable in service, such as the relocation of the chime whistle from behind the chimney to the top of the firebox, and fluted coupling rods being discontinued. The most significant engineering innovation was the use of the Caprotti valves and gear on thirty engines, which proved to be mechanically more efficient than piston valves. |

Ivatt Class 4 2-6-0 43096 & tender in BR lined black with late crest
BARGAIN
These were the last locomotives designed and built by the LMS and the unconventional design was influenced by the successful use of American S160 locomotives during the 2nd World War. Designed for ease of maintenance rather than aesthetics, they were constructed with a high mounted boiler and running plate for quick access to pipe work and auxiliary fittings with the result that they soon earned the nickname 'Mucky Ducky'. A total of 162 were built from 1947 to 1952 and worked across the LMR, ER and Scottish areas. the first 50 were built witha double chimney, which caused exhaust problems. The remainder of the batch were improved by fitting a single chimney and by 1952 the first fifty were all modified and fitted with the same chimney. With a cut down tender and enclosed cab the locomotives could be easily driven tender first making them suitable for routes with no turntables. They proved to be a very powerful and reliable locomotive well suited to mixed traffic work. BR started to withdraw these locomotives in 1963 but the last of these moguls survived until the end of steam in 1968. Sadly on No 43106 survived into preservation. |

Class 108 2 car DMU "Network South East"
BARGAIN
This model does come with directional lighting
In 1955, British Railways published its Modernisation Plan. This provided a way forward for the elimination of steam traction and the adoption of diesel and electric traction across the network.
Prior to 1955 a number of petrol and diesel units had been produced but the Modernisation Plan provided the much needed finance to produce them on a massive scale. Intended for branch, cross-country and suburban workings, a number of different classes were produced.
The second batch of ?Derby Lightweight? built units was later designated Class 108. All 333 vehicles were built at British Railways Derby Works between 1958 - 1961 and were delivered as 147 two-car units, 5 three-car units and 6 four-car units. The final 29 sets produced in 1960/1 differed from the earlier units by having a 4-digit headcode box on the front of the roof above the cab windows. The earlier units had two digit headcode boxes below the cab windows.
These units saw widespread use on the London Midland and North Eastern Regions and were in service well before the might of Dr Beeching?s axe fell on a considerable portion of the rail network in the 1960?s. They had a Blue Square coupling code that allowed them to operate with other unit classes that shared the same designation but not with other types
Due to accident damage the first vehicle was withdrawn in 1964 but the Class continued in service until 1993 when the last units were taken out of service. Over 50 vehicles have been preserved for use on heritage railways. |

AEC Q single deck bus - green (Civil Defence Mobile Gas Unit) "London Transport"
BARGAIN
This item has a limited edition certificate included.
These were later converted for use as a Civil Defense training vehicle, as a mobile gas unit.
In 1932 there suddenly appeared on the London streets a revolutionary new design with a full front and seats in position where orthodox passenger vehicles had engines. An entirely new design of chasis was evolved by AEC at Southall, with the engine positioned on the offside frame member behind the front axle. After the success of the single deck Q with L.G.O.C. and provincial operators, the L.P.T.B. ordered 102 4Q4 type for the Country Area bus work which entered service throughout 1935. Although far ahead of its time, the Q Type was only in production for 4 years but it paved the way for the underfloor engined type so much in evidence today.
BXD 528, Q7 is featured in original prewar Country area livery with 37 seat bodywork by the Birmingham Railway Carriage & Wagon Company. It was allocated to Watford Garage and remained with L.P.T.B. until August 1953. |
