Maidstone Corporation had a history which could be traced back over 90 years, having operated trams from 1904 until 1928. Trolleybuses then replaced them on two of the three routes, until closure in 1967. Motor buses were introduced in 1928. Crew operation had ceased in November 1976 with the withdrawal of Leyland PD2s. After deregulation in 1986 the Corporation owned bus company was facing more competition in its own operating area and saw an expansion into the London contract market as the answer. In mid 1987 contracts were gained for the 132, 228A/C, (later the 228, 328 and the 233) in the Eltham area as part of the Bexley scheme. A new, bold blue and yellow image was introduced in the sprint of 1990, so that Boro'line Maidstone buses were conspicuous among red buses as far away as Euston Station. Ex Southdown 'Queen Mary' BUF 278C was reregistered 217 UKL and given the fleetnumber 290 and used on British Rail contract work.

General policy

New Products & "Advance" orders

We are unable to supply accurate information regarding the expected delivery date of soon-to-be-released products. We are one of the largest model railway & model road vehicle retailers in the country - and so are always amongst, if not, the first to receive delivery of brand new releases.

We allow you to place pre-orders for many items - all these listed at our ehattons.com Forthcoming Releases page. We also allow the opportunity to sign up for a "Delivery notification" email, which will be sent when the item arrives into stock, but this doesn't create an obligation to order.

New items appear on our websites at least within a day (often minutes!) of delivery, and in our magazine advertisements after 3 to 7 weeks.

This site is updated continuously, and reflects current availabilty and prices
